Kia has announced the 200,000th Cee’d compact model had rolled off the production line, just 18 months after its launch. It’s far from the Golf or 308 sales results, but for a Korean car it’s good news.

Hyundai CEO, Chung Mong-koo has announced in a speech to mark the new year that the car maker wants to increase its global sales by 20% for this year. The Korean company expects to sell 4.8 million vehicles compared with 3.96 million over the same period last year.

Kia has a second Chinese factory

Kia has inaugurated its second Chinese factory built in collaboration with its Chinese partner, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor. The new factory will add a capacity of 300,000 vehicles to the 130,000 units already built by the Yangcheng's factory.

A four-door SUV that offered room for six people, it was a sign of the new direction being taken by Korean carmakers regarding concept cars: a coherent design strategy and a viable blueprint for production. The Scion Xb model's success on the American market has aroused other carmakers' ambitions. Kia will be the first to respond to Toyota's brand. Here are some spyshots of the car due to be launched at the next Detroit motor show. The Soul will have enough room for five people(?) and will be powered by a 2.0 litre four cylinder engine coupled with a five speed automatic gearbox.
