Last year, Volvo launched the R line which is an attempt to revive the famous R moniker. The V70 becomes the fifth Volvo model to be offered with the R-Design pack.

Volvo has announced it will recall 82,000 vehicles due to a rust problem that might lead the vehicle’s engine to stall. The recall only concerns the five-cylinder petrol powered models that were built between 2005 and 2006.

Volvo is recalling 42,000 XC90 SUV sold in 2005 due to a suspect battery switch. The recall will only concern the U.S. as only American XC90 are equipped with the battery switch. The faulty switch may create a short circuit.

Volvo C70 gets new four-cylinder turbodiesel engine

Until now, the Volvo C70 was available with a choice of three engines: a five-cylinder 2.4 litre petrol engine producing 168 bhp/170 hp, a five-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit producing 217 bhp/220 hp and five-cylinder turbocharged 2.4 litre diesel engine producing 177 bhp/180 hp. Today Volvo announces the c70 2.0D, which will have an entry-level engine: the four-cylinder turbodiesel that is shared between with the PSA and Ford groups.

Volvo R reincarnates into R-Design

Volvo announced the end of the “R” performance lineup in last April due to poor sales. Only 1098 S60R and 538 V70R were sold last year. Nevertheless Volvo also confirmed that sporty models would still be available but without the R label. It sounds that the R would reincarnate into an optional kit called R-Design.

According to the Swedish car magazine Auto Motor Und Sport, Volvo is rumored to be working on a new luxury model positioned above the XC90 and S80 and possibly labelled the XC100. Expected to be a luxury
wagon, it would compete with the Mercedes R-Class on the American and Asian markets.
